SHIHOGAKOIUKE   Blocking Techniques
Basic Practices


In the case of practice, both players should be poised in the position of chudan with a slight interval between the points of the swords, blocking techniques on sides(continuous movements)
command: shihogakoiuke → hajime (commence) → yame (cease)
The instructor faces the pupil at a suitable distance. The pupil attacks his(her) partner(instructor) taking a step forward and the instructor takes a step back after blocking. In the following diagram the pupil is No1 and the instructor is No2.

Uekakoi(blocking technique over the head with the sword)
No1 hit's No2's head. No2 blocks the head with the sword. Uekakoi is the blocking technique over one's head with the sword.
Hidarikakoi(left side blocking technique)
No1 Continuously hits No2's left shoulder. No2 blocks the left side with the sword. Hidarikakoi is the blocking technique over the left side of the body, head, neck, and chest.
Migikakoi(right side blocking technique)
In the same way, No1 hits No2's right side of the body. No2 blocks the right side with the sword. Migikakoi is the blocking technique over the right side of the body and the waist.
Shitagakoi(lower part blocking technique)
Shitagakoi is the blocking technique for kicking and thrusting. No1 hits No2's body from underneath. No2 blocks the lower part of the body with the sword. Do these blocking techniques alternately.
